2/13/2022 2:15:00 PM | Men's Track & Field

With just two weeks left before the Big Sky Indoor Championship meet, the Wildcat Track and Field athletes were spread out across three meets this weekend to tune-up for competition. Most of the team competed at the Big Sky Preview meet in Bozeman, Montana. A few athletes competed at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, and some at the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho.

Big Sky Preview

Kayden Harmon finishes up the distance runners for this meet with his fourth-place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 8:54.78.

Field events also had a good meet with Xakai Harry finishing first in both the long jump and the high jump. His high jump mark of 6' 8.25" and long jump of 23' 4.5" were just shy of his bests for the season and he will look to improve on those moving into the Big Sky Championships.

Anthony Garcia finished second in the high jump with a mark of 6' 6.25", and Jakob Pearson placed fifth clearing 6' 0.5".

In the long jump Johnie Talamantes finished fifth with a jump of 21' 1.5".

Pole Vaulters continued their recent performances with solid finishes in this meet with Lachlan Burns placing second by clearing 16' 2.75", Jed Smith finished third at 15' 3", and Parker Sagers finished fifth at 15' 3".

For throwing events, Gaige Vielhauer finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 48' 6", and Jake Weathers finished sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 49' 6.5".

UW Husky Classic
Though this meet only had a few Wildcats that participated it had four top twenty marks for the Big Sky this season and a couple of top ten marks for the school records.

In the 800m Bronson Winter placed fifteenth for the meet and earned the number seventeen mark for the Big Sky with a time of 1:54.07.

Tracen Warnick broke the Weber State record for the mile with his fourth-place finishing time of 3:58.52 which has him fifth in the Big Sky this season. Coach Corbin Talley said about Warnick's performance, "I was excited to see him get the 21-year-old school record and become just the second Wildcat to dip under 4:00. He's worked very hard to get to this point and he's an inspiration to the younger guys."

Bronson Winter ran the 3000m in 8:12.93 which has him eleventh in the Big Sky and pumped him to number seven on the Weber State records.

Dallin Leatham also earned a number eleven spot for the Big Sky for the 5000m run with his time of 14:14.28 which is the sixth-best time in school history.

Mountain States Games
Several athletes competed in the 5000m run and six finished in the top ten for the event at the Mountain States Games. Logan Anderson finished highest for the team at third place overall with a time of 14:43.97. Jamison Wilkes came fifth at 14:48.04 and was followed by Jacob Stone at sixth (14:54.62), Taylor Knight at seventh (14:59.34), Conner Cox in eighth (15:02.95), and Carson Wilkins in ninth (15:14.91).

These meets were important in helping the athletes prepare for the Big Sky Championships which will be held in Bozeman, Montana in a couple of weeks. With several high marks in the Big Sky this season, the Wildcats are looking to compete well at the Championships. Coach Talley added, "we have some final work to do and we need to get a few guys rested and healthy, and then we'll get after the Big Sky Championships."
