Weber State has four interceptions and picks up first FBS win since 1993.
The win is Weber State's first win over an FBS team since 1993. It was also just the second win ever over Utah State and the first since 1978.
"The players were tougher than nails and executed the game plan so well and made plays on both sides of the ball," said WSU head coach Jay Hill. "There were so many positives tonight and I'm super proud of the players and the coaches."
Weber State posted 401 yards of total offense, compared to 283 for Utah State. The 'Cats had 202 yards passing and 199 yards rushing.
The WSU defense forced four interceptions and forced held the Aggies to 2 of 15 on third down conversions, while WSU was 10 of 19.
It was an eventful first quarter. The Wildcats got on the board first with a 32-yard by Kyle Thompson.
But Utah State returned the ensuing kickoff 100-yards for a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead. Just two plays later, Weber State regained the lead on a 17-yard touchdown run by Josh Davis.
After an interception by Jalon Rock, the 'Cats scored again on a 20-yard field goal by Thompson and led 13-7 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was scoreless thanks in part to a huge interception by Maxwell Anderson with four seconds left in the half. Anderson picked off a USU pass in the end zone to stop a drive and the 'Cats led 13-7 at the break.
The Wildcats went on an 18-play, 86-yard drive that took 9:29 in the third quarter and converted on six third down conversions, capped by a nine-yard touchdown from Bronson Barron to Ty MacPherson.
On the next drive, Desmond Williams picked off an Aggie pass and returned it 33-yards for a touchdown to give the 'Cats the 28-7 lead with 2:43 left in the third quarter.
WSU added even more with an 18-yard touchdown from Barron to MacPherson to make it 35-7 with 6:42 to play.
On offense, Barron was 11 of 22 for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Davis rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown and Bankston finished with 53 yards rushing.
Jacob Sharp had four catches for 87 yards and MacPherson had three catches for 89 yards.
The Wildcats are back home next Saturday, Sept. 17 for another in-state game hosting Utah Tech in a 6 p.m. kickoff at Stewart Stadium.
