WSU's Stars Shine Bright, Wildcats Fall to Bobcats

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcat women's basketball team wrapped up its two-game homestand with a 80-65 loss to the Montana State Bobcats.
The dynamic duo of Daryn Hickok and Jadyn Matthews combined for 11 points and eight rebounds in the first quarter, including a buzzer-beating three pointer from Matthews to take a 14-13 lead into the second quarter.
A pair of Laura Taylor three pointers to go along with another trio of points from Hickok highlighted the second period. The Wildcats also forced five turnovers in the second, but fell behind to the Bobcats by a tally of 33-27 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
It was another tremendous quarter from Weber State's stellar seniors. Hickok totaled eight points and four rebounds in the frame, while Matthews scored seven more points and snatched four boards to give her a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds at the end of the third. The Wildcats trailed by nine going into the fourth quarter.
Despite another strong effort from Weber State's stars in the fourth frame, the Bobcats were finally able to create some game-defining separation in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 80-65 win. Weber State (4-13, 0-5) was led by Hickok who finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, and Matthews who had 16 points ate up the glass for a game-leading 12 rebounds.
NOTABLES
-With 16 points to wrap up the weekend, Matthews now sits at 989 for her career as she inches closer to being the 23rd Wildcat to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
-This was the 50th time in her career and 15th time this season that Matthews has scored in double figures. This was also the 20th double-double of Matthews' storied career.
-Saturday's game was the 15th time in Hickok's that she scored at least 20 points. It was also the eighth time that she has tallied a double-double.

The Wildcats head to the northwest to take on the Portland State Vikings in Oregon. That game will tip off on January 19 at 7 PM MT.
