Wildcats pick up road win 52-49 at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO - It was another low-scoring battle between Weber State and Sacramento State, but once again, the Wildcats found a way to win. Weber State closed the game on a 12-6 run and held on for a 52-49 win over the Hornets Thursday night at the Nest.
The game saw nine ties and four lead changes and once again, the 'Cats won a low-scoring game. Weber State defeated Sacramento State 50-48 on January 21 in Ogden.
The Wildcats improved to 14-13 overall and remained in third place in the Big Sky at 9-5 with four conference games remaining.
WSU shot 40 percent from the field and held Sacramento State to 36 percent. The 'Cats made a season-low two 3-pointers, and finished just 2 of 12 from 3-point range, but outrebounded the Hornets 33-32.
The Wildcats went on a 9-0 run and jumped out to a 20-13 lead early in the first half and later led by eight points at halftime, before ending the first half with a 26-20 lead.
The 'Cats led by as many seven points early in the second half before the Hornets started to rally. Sacramento State went on n 11-2 run and took the lead at 36-34 midway through the second half.
WSU trailed by three points with 3:43 to play, before a 6-0 run gave the 'Cats a 46-43 lead with 1:40 to play. Weber State made seven free throws in the final 3:26 to hang on for the win. Zahir Porter made two free throws with four seconds left and Sacramento State missed a 3-pointer to tie the game.
Dillon Jones once again led the Wildcats with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals. It was his 16th double-double this season.
Steven Verplancken added 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting, along with three rebounds and two assists. Alex Terw had 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Porter started the game for an injured KJ Cunningham and added eight points.
The 'Cats continue their road trip Saturday night at Portland State, before coming home next week for the final two home games against league-leading Eastern Washington and Idaho.
