Wildcats beat Vikings at the Dee

2/18/2023 3:21:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Weber State women's basketball hosted the Portland State Vikings to close out their final two-game home stand of the season. The Wildcats collected their second win of conference play with a 62-55 win over the Vikings.

Vicky Parra started the afternoon off for the 'Cats with a jumper, giving the 'Cats the lead early in the first quarter. PSU kept the quarter close and pulled away from the 'Cats with a 19-15 lead headed in the second quarter.

The Wildcats were perfect from the arch in the first quarter, making both of their attempted three pointers compared to the Vikings 42.9%.

By the end of the half Jadyn Matthews led the squad with 10 points and Aaliyah Ellis was close behind with five.

Parra opened up the third quarter for the 'Cats with a layup giving them a 29-27 lead. Looking to extend the lead, Kaiija Lesane followed Parra with a layup of their own and the 'Cats were rolling with a 31-27 lead early in the quarter.

Despite the Viks' best attempts to slow the 'Cats down, Weber State held a 46-43 lead headed into the fourth quarter following a three pointer from Charlotte Hegvold

Weber State outscored Portland State in the second, third and fourth quarters. Between the two teams, there were 12 lead changes and 11 ties throughout the game. The Wildcats will hit the road and take on Eastern Washington and the University of Idaho on Feb. 23 and 25.
