Wildcats Suffer Home Loss Against Lions

OGDEN – The Weber State Wildcat volleyball team returned home to Swenson Gym on Friday evening and fell to a very talented Loyola Marymount Lions team in three sets.
WSU took an early 10-7 lead in the first set following an attacking error from LMU, and the Wildcats took the lead at 17-16 as well. It would be all Lions from that point and LMU took the initial frame of the match.
The 'Cats got out to another lead in the second set at 10-8 after a miscue from the Lion offense. Baylee Bodily notched one of her five kills in the match to give Weber State an edge at 14-13, too. The two sides exchanged blows when back-to-back kills from Liana Woodley knotted the set at 21 points each, but LMU narrowly escaped the second with a 25-23 victory.
An early four-point run from the Wildcats in the third set – featuring an ace from Dani Richins – gave Weber State a 5-3 advantage over the Lions, but things evened out, ebbed and flowed for both teams until the Wildcats rattled off five consecutive points to build a 16-11 lead. The Lions roared back and scored 10 of the next 12 points to regain the momentum and carried that throughout the remainder of the match to notch a 3-0 win over the Wildcats.
