Weber State will party like it's 1999!

Weber State Athletics is throwing it back to the 1999 WSU men's basketball season to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the great teams and moments in Wildcat history.

At the men's basketball game on January 20, Weber State will honor the 1999 Wildcat team that won the Big Sky Championship and upset North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.

Big Sky MVP Harold "The Show" Arceneaux and Eddie "The Thrill" Gill are both scheduled to be in attendance at the game, along with a few other members of that 1999 team. Arceneaux and Gill will speak at halftime as WSU commemorates the 25th anniversary.

Under head coach Ron Abegglen, the 1998-99 team finished 25-8 overall and were 13-3 in the Big Sky to capture the regular season title. The Wildcats hosted the Big Sky Tournament that season in Ogden and won two games to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

The 'Cats were given a No. 14 seed and sent to Seattle to take on perennial powerhouse North Carolina.

Weber State pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament with a 76-74 win over the No. 3 seed Tarheels. Arceneaux scored 36 points with five 3-pointers in the win and Gill added 16 points.

The Wildcats then played Florida in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Arceneaux scored 32 points but the 'Cats fell in overtime to the Gators.

Arceneaux was named the Big Sky MVP and Gill earned first team All-Big Sky honors. Abegglen was also named the Big Sky Coach of the Year. All three are now members of the Weber State Athletics Hall of Fame. Abegglen passed away in December 2018.

Join Weber State in celebrating 25 years since this great Wildcat team on January 20 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events when the WSU men's basketball team hosts Idaho.
