Wildcats drop final regular season road game to Lumberjacks

3/2/2024 3:56:00 PM | Women's Basketball

The Wildcats final game of the season and senior night is Monday Mar. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Dee Events Center against Montana State.

Flagstaff, AZ - Weber State women's basketball finished their final road trip game of the season with a 73-41 loss against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 7-23 overall and 4-13 in the Big Sky.

It was a solid back-and-forth between the two teams to start the first 10 minutes with the Wildcats holding the lead over the Lumberjacks three times. Daryn Hickok led the team in the first quarter with eight points and Weber State ended the quarter trailing by one 15-14.

The Wildcats were 0-5 in 3-pointers until Kendra Parra snapped that with the 'Cats first one in the second quarter. Northern Arizona started to push the pace and Weber State trailed by six after a timeout called by the purple and white. With the score at 28-21, it was the largest lead for the Lumberjacks in the game at the 4:55 point.

Starting the third quarter 33-27 in favor of the Lumberjacks, the Wildcats put their offense into gear. Four points made by Hickok pulled the 'Cats up to trail by two. At one point the Wildcats had eight points compared to the Lumberjacks four but that was short-lived as NAU finished the quarter with 13 points.

Into the final frame, the Lumberjacks made an 11-point run until a free throw made by Kaija Lesane snapped that. However, the 'Jacks quickly found another going 9-0. After trailing NAU by just nine points heading into the fourth quarter, poor defense allowed the Lumberjacks to a 73-41 win over the Wildcats.

To Note

  • Daryn closed the game out with 20 points and four rebounds.
  • Weber State had four points compared to Northern Arizona's 27 in the fourth quarter.
