Wildcats fall short to Bobcats, 67-65

3/4/2024 8:25:00 PM | Women's Basketball

The Weber State women’s basketball team recognized four seniors Daryn Hickok, Jadyn Matthews, Laura Taylor, and Sierra Davis.

Ogden, UT - Weber State women's basketball late fourth quarter run was not enough as the Wildcats closed out their final game of the regular season with a 67-65 loss to the Montana State Bobcats.

The Wildcats were trailing by six early into the first 10 minutes of game play, before Weber State's offense kicked into gear and the quarter ended with the Wildcats behind by just three points (19-16).

Closely contested in the beginning of the second quarter, two 3-pointers made by Kendra Parra and Laura Taylor allowed the Wildcats to trail by two. Kennedy Eskelson tied the score up at 24-24 with a layup at the 7:23 mark. However, finding some separation, the Bobcats went on a 5-0 run to end the half 38-30.

Low scoring for Weber State in the third quarter led the Bobcats to end with a 55-43 advantage.

Getting hot in the final frame, an 11-0 run made by the Wildcats pushed Montana State to a timeout late in the fourth quarter. Under a minute left in the game, a layup by the Bobcats extended their lead by six but a foul then made by MSU and two good free throws by Matthews put the Wildcats behind by four. After a Montana State timeout, a Laura Taylor steal and layup gave the Bobcats just a two-point lead (67-65). However, with 10 seconds left on the clock a missed jumper by the Wildcats earned the Bobcats the 67-65 victory on the road.

Weber State recognized four seniors tonight, Sierra Davis, Laura Taylor, Jadyn Matthews, and Daryn Hickok. Matthews holds the Wildcat record for career games played with 142. She ranks eighth in career points and fourth in career rebounds. Hickok ranks third in career points with 1,794 and second in career games played for the Wildcats.

  • Weber State finished their regular season 4-14 and ranked ninth in the Big Sky.
  • Laura Taylor and Kendra Parra led the Wildcats tonight both with 12 points.
  • WSU shot 45.3 percent from the field, MSU shot only 39.7 percent.
