Ana Morett (women’s tennis), Dillon Jones (men’s basketball), and Hugo Cepeda (men’s golf) were all named the sport winners for their respective sports.
Three Weber State student-athletes have been honored for academic excellence and named sports winners for the 2024 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award.Â
Ana Morett (women's tennis), Dillon Jones (men's basketball), and Hugo Cepeda (men's golf) were all named the sport winners for their respective sports.Â
Morrett and Jones were also both one of the finalists for the Male and Female Athlete of the Year award.Â
The Ashe Award is presented by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine. The annual Ashe edition is part of our over-a-quarter-century legacy of recognizing outstanding, young minority men and women who have distinguished themselves in their academic and athletic pursuits.
Further, students named sports scholars must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
In addition to the Male and Female Sports Scholar of the Year, winners in each individual sport category are recognized in the annual Ashe edition.
Morett is in her fifth season with the Wildcat women's tennis team and was named the Big Sky MVP in 2023. She helped lead Weber State to the 2022 Big Sky regular season title and the 2023 tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.Â
Dillon Jones was named the 2024 Big Sky MVP and is a three-time All-Big Sky and All-District performer. He had one of the top final seasons of any player in the country and finished his four-year career as one of the top players in Weber State history. He ranks in the WSU all-time top 10 in 12 different categories.Â
Hugo Cepeda has been a part of the Wildcat men's golf team for the last four seasons.Â
