Perry comes to Weber State with 30 years of coaching experience in the NBA and college, including eight years as a Division I head coach.

Weber State men's basketball head coach Eric Duft has added longtime college coach Leonard Perry as an assistant coach with the Wildcat staff.

Perry comes to Weber State with 30 years of coaching experience in college and the NBA, including eight years as a Division I head coach.

Perry was the head coach at the University of Pacific for the last three seasons. He was also the head coach at the University of Idaho for five years from 2001-06.

He also has an extensive background as an assistant coach in college and in the NBA.

Perry played college basketball at McLennan Community College and then played two years at Idaho in the Big Sky from 1989-91. As a senior, he averaged 7.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and was part of the Vandal team that won the 1991 Big Sky Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

He began his coaching career as a student assistant coach under Larry Eustachy at Idaho from 1993-95. He graduated from Idaho in 1995.

He then moved with Larry Eustachy and became an assistant coach at Utah State from 1995-98 and was part of three-straight winning seasons with the Aggies and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

He then moved to Iowa State where he was an assistant coach from 1998-99 and was promoted to associate head coach from 1999-01. The 1999-2000 Iowa State team was 32-5 and advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament and finished the year ranked sixth in the nation.

In 2001, Perry was named the head coach at his Alma mater, the University of Idaho, where he coached for the next five seasons.

He moved to the NBA in 2006 and spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers, then three seasons (2008-11) as a scout with the Pacers.

He returned to college coaching and was an assistant coach at Southern Miss in 2011-12, working again under coach Eustachy. He was the associate head coach at Colorado State from 2012-16.

In 2016, he became the associate head coach at Pacific under Damon Stoudamire, and served in that position for five seasons. He was then named the head coach at Pacific where he coached for three seasons.

Perry is a native of Dallas, Texas. He and his wife Christiana have five children.

"We are extremely excited to have Leonard Perry join our staff," Duft said. "He is an accomplished coach who has cut down a lot of nets as an assistant. He brings experience and knowledge of what championship teams are about. Our players will gain valuable wisdom from his teaching. In addition, he is a tremendous person who will help the young men in our program develop on and off the court. We welcome coach Perry and his wife Christina to the Weber State family."
