Arky will call Weber State men's basketball and football games on 103.1 FM "The Wave". He was previously the play-by-play voice at Weber State from 1998-2015.
Carl Arky is returning as the radio voice of the Wildcats. Arky has been named the new radio play-by-play voice of Weber State Athletics and will broadcast WSU football and men's basketball games beginning this season. Wildcat games will once again be broadcast on 103.1 FM "The Wave".Â
Arky is a former Utah Sportscaster of the Year and was the radio broadcaster at Weber State for over 17 years from 1998-2015. He takes over as the radio announcer for Steve Klauke who tragically passed away in June in an auto-pedestrian accident.Â
"I miss Steve. We all do," Arky said. "He is always in my thoughts. If I had the power, I would change the events of that day back in June when he left us. And then I would gladly hand the mic over to Steve so he could call Wildcat games for years to come. As bittersweet as this is, I'm incredibly honored to be handed the baton to keep running the race for Steve and the Wildcats. I'm honored and humbled to have Weber State offer this opportunity to return as the Voice of the Wildcats, a calling that's always been a labor of love. It's a privilege to again be a part of Weber State University and all of our great athletic programs."Â
Arky called nearly all Weber State men's basketball and football games from 1998 to 2015. He was named the Utah Sportscaster of the Year in 2011. He called several memorable Wildcat games, including multiple NCAA Tournaments. In his first year during the 1998-99 season, the Wildcat men's basketball team won the Big Sky and beat North Carlina in the NCAA Tournament.Â
After leaving Weber State, Arky spent time working at WOIO the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, and SWX in Montana. He also did play-by-play for the archery events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero. He spent the last six years as the Senior Media Relations Specialist at the Utah Transit Authority.Â
Arky has a long broadcasting career. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1977. His first full-time position came in 1978 at KTUL-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as a sportscaster and was the producer/host of the Jimmy Johnson Oklahoma State Football Coaches Show. Arky came to Utah in 1983 where he worked at KUTV-TV Channel 2 in Salt Lake City.
He was the Sports Director at KTVX Channel 4 in Salt Lake City and served as the color analyst on the televised games of the Salt Lake Bees. He also served as the television voice for Pro Rodeo on ESPN for four seasons. Â
In 1987, he became the Director of Broadcasting for the Utah Jazz where he was responsible for the production and syndication of all Jazz radio and television programming, and served as the color analyst with "Hot Rod" Hundley on those broadcasts. After two seasons with the Jazz, Arky formed his own production company and broadcasted cable TV games of the Sacramento Kings, as well as the Western Athletic Conference Game of the Week, Air Force Blue-White Network, and selected games for the University of Utah from 1989 through 1991.  Â
Arky is married to Deborah Linder and they are the parents of two sons, Jake and Sam, and grandsons Lucas, Jackson, and Wesley. Shay the cattle dog and Ali the Huskador round out the Arky clan.
