‘Cats fall to Vikings in Ogden

10/2/2025 10:28:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Ogden, UT - The Weber State Wildcats women's soccer team dropped a match to the Portland State Vikings 1-0 on a night that the 'Cats honored 6 Wildcat seniors.

We came out flat, and it's unfortunate that they scored in those moments we just were not ourselves, said Head Coach Kyle Christensen. We had a lot of chances, we just were not clinical in and around the box, and that was the difference, especially in the 2nd half.

The Wildcats had plenty of options all night outshooting the Vikings 20-5, but were unable to break through for the equalizer.

Portland State put their goal into the back of the net in the 11th minute. From then on, the 'Cats were on the attack, looking for the equalizer.

In the first half, Grace Kirby (Ogden, UT/Fremont) put her corner into the box to Brynlee Meyerhoffer (Plain City, UT/Fremont), whose header was saved by the Vikings' goalie. Minutes later, Harlee Thomas (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) back-heeled a ball from Tenzi Knowles that was also saved.

The 'Cats had 3 shots ricochet off the goal on the night. Sayler Schlosser (Alpine, UT/Lone Peak) had a shot off the crossbar in the 49th minute, Meyerhoffer connected with the post on a header in the 64th minute, and sent one high off the crossbar in the 74th minute.

Their pressure was really tough all night, Senior Grace Kirby said, Overall, though, I think we just need to be better in front of the goal.

Opportunities continued all night as the Wildcats had good looks saved in the 53rd, 57th, 72nd, and 84th minutes. Unable to connect, Portland State was able to hang on for the 1-0 victory.

I thought we left some opportunities out there, Christensen said, I think we could have had better decision-making in and around the box to create better opportunities for us.

In the 2nd half alone, the Wildcats had 14 shots to the Vikings' 2, including 6 corner kicks to 0 for the visitors.

Conference is always going to have bumps in it, Christensen said, We will learn from this and continue to work on things going forward. We will regroup and get ready for next Thursday.

Next Thursday, the team is heading north to take on the Montana Grizzlies in Missoula. The Griz sport a 7-3-2 record and will take on the Idaho Vandals on Sunday afternoon before taking on the Wildcats on Thursday afternoon.

The match against Montana will kick off at 3 p.m.

The team will return home on Sunday, October 12th, as they will take on Sacramento State in the final home game of the season for the Wildcats. The match will kick off at noon and will be a pink out.
