Wildcats fall to Wolverines in Orem

OREM, Utah - Weber State women's basketball fell 59-55 to the Utah Valley Wolverines this Thursday evening.
The Wildcats raced to an 11-2 advantage behind a dominant nine-point run courtesy of Lanae Billy and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu. Utah Valley countered with a 6-0 run to then cut the deficit to three, but a Billy jumper and Emma-Nnopu layup helped Weber State to close the first quarter ahead 15-10. The Wolverines opened the second quarter by tying the game at 15-15 and later burst ahead 21-17 with six straight points. However, Weber State battled back to reclaim the lead and end the half 27-26.
Coming out of halftime, Hannah Robbins knocked down a three to push the Wildcats ahead 30–28. Behind strong offensive and defensive play, Weber State capitalized at the free-throw line, putting up seven to carry a 43-41 lead headed into the final frame of gameplay. In the final quarter, an Emma-Nnopu layup kept the 'Cats close at 52-50. Utah Valley used a pair of free throws, but Emma-Nnopu continued to battle down low with another layup. In the final minute, Weber State fought to close the gap, but the Wolverines used three late free throws to secure the 59-55 finish.

Antoniette Emma-Nnopu led the squad with 21 points and eight rebounds.
The Wildcats shot 40 percent from the field and 25 percent from the arc compared to the Wolverines 29.8 percent and 27.3 percent.
Utah Valley outperformed Weber State shooting 84.6 percent from the stripe to the Wildcats 66.7 percent.
