Wildcats drop in-state contest to Cougars

PROVO, Utah - Wildcat women's basketball dropped a 79-62 decision this Saturday afternoon to the BYU Cougars.Â
Weber State jumped out to an early 11-7 lead over BYU following a Hannah Robbins layup. The Cougars worked at the deficit, using five straight points to trail the Wildcats by one. BYU took the lead at 14-13 however, it wasn't long before two Wildcat 3-pointers regained the lead for Weber State and closed the first quarter 19-16. Weber State shot 53.8 percent from the field compared to BYU's 35.7 percent.Â
BYU regained control in the second, hitting three 3-pointers to advance by six. The Wildcats held the Cougars, making an 8-0 run to take back the lead at 34-33. However, in a game of runs, the Cougars used five straight points to close out the quarter 38-35. The Wildcats led at the half, shooting 53.8 percent from the field. From behind the arc, BYU had the advantage, shooting 50 percent to the Wildcats 27.3 percent.Â
The Cougars created some space in the third quarter, advancing by seven. Two pairs of made free throws by the 'Cats cut that deficit to three however, the Cougar offense held strong and closed out the quarter 61-54. Into the final frame of gameplay, BYU held the Wildcats to just two points within the first five minutes and used that to build a 70-56 advantage. Holding onto that lead, BYU sealed the game 79-62.

Weber State was led by Hannah Robbins with 19 points. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu totaled 17 points and eight rebounds.  As a team, the Wildcats shot 43.1 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from behind the arc.Â
