Weber State Volleyball welcomes Kate Payne as assistant coach

OGDEN - Weber State Volleyball and Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen are excited to announce the hiring of former Wildcat player Kate Payne as an assistant coach. Payne joins the staff in what marks her first year coaching at the Division I level.
"We are excited to have Kate back with our program as a coach," said head coach Jeremiah Larsen. "She will help our players overcome challenges and grow as people and volleyball players. I look forward to working with her as she starts her collegiate volleyball career."
Payne was a member of the Weber State volleyball program from 2019 to 2024. During her time as a student-athlete, the Wildcats captured two Big Sky regular season titles and two Big Sky Tournament titles. The team also secured the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win and recorded four victories in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).Â
A standout setter and leader, Payne concluded her collegiate career with 3,444 assists, the second-most in program history, and 1,583 digs, ranking third all-time at Weber State. She was a two-time All-Big Sky First Team selection and earned a spot on the 2024 Wildcat Invitational All-Tournament Team. In her final season, she ranked third in the Big Sky Conference in assists.
Since graduating, Payne has been completing a master's degree in Sport Coaching Leadership, during which she conducted research on advanced volleyball techniques. In addition to her academic work, she has served as a substitute teacher in the Ogden and Weber school districts and contributed as a coach for the boys' volleyball team at Weber High School.
"I am so excited to be back at Weber State working alongside the best coaching staff and athletes," said Payne. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to help continue to grow this program and contribute to the legacy that's being left."
