Wildcats drop close contest to Lady Griz

OGDEN - Despite a late surge in the fourth quarter, Weber State women's basketball ultimately fell 51-50 to the Montana Lady Griz.Â
??It was a closely contested first quarter against the Lady Griz, as the Wildcats trailed by two, 12-10, at the end of the first ten minutes.Â
Montana started to pull away in the second quarter, using an 8-0 scoring run to go up 24-14. Weber State's Paris Lauro and Lanae Billy put up two late 3-pointers to close out the half down by seven.Â
The Wildcats were shooting 32.1 percent from the field and 18.2 percent (2-11) from beyond the arc at the half.Â
Weber State stayed competitive in the third quarter, holding the Lady Griz to 12 points. However, only totaling 11 of their own, the Wildcats ended the quarter down 41-33.Â
The final quarter began with back-to-back 3-pointers from Japrix Stubbs and Billy to cut the deficit to two points. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu then tied the game at 44-44 with a pair of good free throws.Â
In the closing minute, a late Lady Griz layup put them ahead by three. With only 13 seconds remaining, the Wildcats managed a layup but were unable to get a 3-pointer off, leaving them down by one point. Unable to produce any other offense in the short time remaining, the Wildcats fell by a score of 51-50 to the Lady Griz.Â
Wildcat Makenna Shaffer-Lauer has been sidelined with a concussion, but she is anticipated to return for Saturday's game.
