Lumberjacks top Wildcats in Ogden

OGDEN - Weber State women's basketball fell 71-58 to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks this Thursday evening. The loss drops the Wildcats to 0-3 in the Big Sky play.

Northern Arizona came out using a 7-0 run to take an early lead over Weber State. The Wildcats made a comeback in the first ten minutes of gameplay, taking the lead following four good free throws at 12-9. The Lumberjacks managed to hit a good 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in the quarter to lead with a one-point advantage, 15-14. 

Northern Arizona led for the entire second quarter, extending their advantage to 32-25 by halftime, as Weber State managed to score only 11 points in the quarter.

The Wildcats shot 26.9 percent from the field and zero percent from beyond the arc, while also committing 18 turnovers during the first half. 

The Lumberjacks kept their lead throughout the third quarter, closing it out 59-41 as they put up 27 points to the Wildcats 16. 

Down to the final frame of gameplay, Weber State outscored Northern Arizona 17-12 however, it was not enough to overcome the deficit as the Lumberjacks secured the win 71-58 in Ogden. 

Wildcat Stats
  • Returning from a concussion and being out of the previous two games, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu led the squad with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
  • Weber State shot 32.2 percent from the field (19-59) and 13.0 percent from beyond the arc (3-23) compared to Northern Arizona's 39.1 percent and 47.8 percent. NAU was led by Naomi White who recorded 37 points. 
Keeping up with the 'Cats
  • The Wildcats will continue conference play at home on January 10, facing Northern Colorado with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m. Admission will be free. 
  • Carla Taylor "CT" will be honored at Saturday's game. CT is a former two-sport Wildcat athlete and had a storied career as a head coach at Weber State. She has been connected to WSU for the past 45 years.
