Wildcats Fall to Washington State on Tiebreaker at Mountain Classic Match Play

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Weber State women's golf team opened up the 2026 spring season and the Mountain Classic Match Play tournament with a 2-2-1 tie against Washington State at The Classic Club, but the Wildcats were knocked into the consolation bracket on a tiebreaker.
Cala Korman and Braylyn Bayer each scored wins for Weber State in the team's first round matchup.
"The team played a great match today and took Washington State to the very end," said Weber State head coach Rich Friend. "I'm really proud of them and looking forward to a great spring season with this team."
Korman defeated Agnes Brink, playing great down the stretch and posting a birdie on 17 to win the match 2 & 1. Korman played her final 11 holes in even par to flip a 1-down deficit after the seventh hole.
Bayer won her match 1-Up in a shootout with Grace Rubelsky. The pair each carded a trio of birdies over the final 10 holes with Bayer taking the lead for good with a birdie on 16. She then held on to the one-hole lead with a pair of pars to wrap up Weber State's second full point of the match.
After Emily Song lost 2-Down to Kaitlyn Helm and Sofia Fuenmayor lost 6 & 5 to Hannah Harrison, the match came down to the No. 1 spot in the lineup with Jade Gruher taking on Anya Cedo.
Gruher and Cedo battled in a tight match all day long, and Gruher carded her third birdie of the day on the final hole to erase a 1-hole deficit to finish the day all square in their match and in the team score.
Washington State advanced into the semifinals on the tiebreaker, having won more holes overall between the two teams on the day.
In indiviudal action, Weber State's Adley Nelson fell to Montana State's Ashleigh Wilson by a 3 & 2 score.
The Wildcats will go on to face Wyoming in the consolation bracket on Tuesday.
