2026 Starch Madness brackets are set

Weber State women will play Portland State on Saturday, and WSU men will play Eastern Washington on Monday in Boise.

It's March and time for Starch Madness. The brackets are set for the 2026 Big Sky Championships in Boise, Idaho, the home of Starch Madness. 

For the eighth straight year, the Big Sky Championships will be held at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise, beginning on Saturday. 

MEN

The Weber State men's basketball team earned the No. 6 seed and will play No. 3 Eastern Washington on Monday, March 9, at 8 p.m. in the quarterfinals. 

Monday's game will be televised on ESPN+ with Tony Parks and Joe Cravens on the call. The game will also be televised in Utah on Utah 16. 

The Wildcats finished the conference regular season at 10-8 and in a three-way tie for fourth in the league standings with Montana and Northern Colorado, but will be the number six seed in the tournament. 

Eastern Washington finished the year 11-7. The Eagles had won eight straight games before falling in the regular season finale to Idaho. 

Weber State and Eastern Washington split in the regular season. The Wildcats won 91-80 on January 15 in Ogden, and the Eagles won 84-66 on February 14 in Cheney.   

The Wildcats have been led this season by junior Tijan Saine Jr., who finished the regular season leading the Big Sky in scoring in conference games at 20.8 points per game. Saine led WSU in scoring in 14 of the 18 conference games and scored 20 or more in 11 Big Sky games.  


WOMEN 

The Wildcat women's team finished the regular season winning two of their final three games and earned the No. 9 seed in the conference tournament. 

The 'Cats closed out the regular season with an 81-52 win over Portland State on Monday night at the Dee Events Center and finished 4-14 in the league standings. The 'Cats will play the Vikings once again on Saturday in the first round of the tournament. 

No. 9 Weber State and No. 10 Portland State will play the first game of Starch Madness on Saturday, March 7, at 12 p.m. in Boise. 

WSU senior Antoinette Emma-Nnopu leads the Big Sky in field goal percentage at 52 percent and is second in the league in rebounding at 10 per game. She is first on the WSU team in scoring at 14.0 points per game, and Lanae Billy is second at 11.8. 

Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
