Wildcats drop decision to Aggies at home

OGDEN - Weber State softball dropped a 5-1 decision to Utah State on Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Field.
Â
Utah State struck quickly in the top of the first inning, opening the scoring on an RBI double from Pratt before Erickson followed with a two-run homer to right center to give the Aggies an early 3-0 advantage.
The Wildcats were limited offensively throughout the afternoon, managing three hits against the Aggie pitching staff. Weber State broke through in the sixth inning when Emma Bingham created a run on the bases, stealing third before coming home on a Utah State throwing error to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Any momentum was short-lived, however, as Utah State answered in the seventh. Erickson delivered her second home run of the game, a two-run shot to left field, extending the lead to four at 5-1.Â
Weber State's pitching staff kept the Wildcats within reach for much of the contest after the opening frame, but the early three-run hole proved difficult to overcome. Raina Navarro was charged with the loss in the circle, while Utah State finished with 11 hits in the win.Â
