The naming ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m.

OGDEN - The softball field at Weber State will bear a new name to honor a Hall of Fame coach.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, the softball field at Weber State will be named the Mary Kay Amicone Field at Miller Park.

The naming ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the softball field, prior to the WSU softball team's final home game of the season against Montana at 12 p.m.

"This is a historic day for Weber State Athletics as we recognize a true icon of the game," said Tim Crompton, WSU Director of Athletics. "We are profoundly grateful to the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation for their incredible generosity and support of our softball program. Their gift allows us to link the Miller family legacy with that of the Amicone family. Naming this field after Mary Kay is a fitting tribute to a woman who didn't just win championships—she built a standard of excellence that will inspire Wildcat student-athletes for generations to come."

In addition to a new name, the field will be renovated to enhance the student-athlete and fan experience. These improvements reflect a shared commitment to providing Weber State softball with a first-class facility that honors the program's legacy while supporting its continued growth.

"We are honored to be part of this facility and to celebrate Coach Mary Kay Amicone's remarkable legacy," said Don Stirling, Executive Director of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. "Softball has long been part of the Miller family's story—a game that brings families together and instills values of teamwork, competition, and community. Coach Amicone embodies those same values. Her leadership has shaped generations of student-athletes, and we are proud to help create a space that honors her impact and inspires future Wildcats for years to come."

Amicone was the head coach of the Weber State softball team from 2014-24 and left a legacy unmatched at Weber State and in the Big Sky Conference.

A former Wildcat player herself, she guided the program to 10 Big Sky Championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and the first NCAA regional win in conference history. She is both Weber State's and the Big Sky Conference's all-time leader in wins and winning percentage.

In her 11 seasons as head coach, Amicone recorded 297 victories, six Big Sky regular-season titles, and four tournament championships. Her 2022 squad set multiple school and conference records, tying the program record for victories (38), earning the Big Sky's first-ever No. 3 seed in NCAA regional play, and notching a historic win over Texas A&M. That year, Amicone was named Big Sky Coach of the Year for the third straight season and the fourth time in her career.

Across her career, Amicone accumulated more than 800 career victories as a head coach at Weber State, Salt Lake Community College, and BYU. She launched BYU's softball program in 2000, leading the Cougars to a Mountain West Championship and earning Mountain West Coach of the Year honors in 2001. At SLCC, she won 430 games, claimed seven conference titles, and made three NJCAA national championship appearances.

Amicone also became the first female head coach of a high school boys' baseball team at Jordan High, and earlier won a Class 5A state softball title at Bingham High. As a player, she was a first-team All-American at the University of Utah after beginning her career at Weber State.

Amicone was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in September 2025.

She and her husband, Marc Amicone, longtime president and general manager of the Salt Lake Bees, raised two sons, Trevor and Derek.
