Wildcats Open Big Sky Championships in Sixth Place

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Weber State women's golf team shot an 10-over par score of 294 at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Monday and is in sixth place after the tournament's first day of play.
Sofia Fuenmayor led the way for the Wildcats on the day, carding five birdies against four bogeys for a 1-under par opening round of 70 to grab a tie for sixth place through 18 holes. Fuenmayor was especially good down the stretch for the 'Cats, playing the final five holes in 3-under par.
Adley Nelson and Cala Korman each birdied the final two holes to finish the day with 2-over par scores of 73 and the pair are tied for 18th place. Korman matched Fuenmayor with five birdies on her card, while Nelson posted three birdies.
Braylyn Bayer shot a 7-over par 78 on the day and is in a tie for 40th place, carding a pair of birdies in her round.
Emily Song recorded a 12-over par 83 and is in 49th place. Song was 11-over par through 11 holes, but turned the corner coming in, playing the final seven holes in 1-over par and the final five holes in even-par.
Northern Arizona grabbed the first round lead, posting a score of 2-under par 282, 12 shots ahead of Weber State. Northern Colorado and Montana State are tied for second at even par 284, while Sacramento State is fourth at 3-over par 287. Idaho State is in fifth place, four shots ahead of Weber State.
Sophia Lee of Sacramento State leads the individual leaderboard by a single shot after posting a 4-under par 67.
The second round of the tournament will begin on Tuesday morning at 7:30 am MDT.
