Wildcats Rally for First Win of 2026 Against Wyoming

Weber State scores twice in the first half to earn a 2-1 victory over the Cowgirls

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Weber State soccer earned its first win of the 2026 season Thursday afternoon, defeating Wyoming 2-1 at the Madrid Sports Complex.

The Wildcats overcame an early deficit to score twice in the first half and held off the Cowgirls in the second half to secure the road victory.

Wyoming opened the scoring just 2:40 into the match, taking an early 1-0 lead. Weber State responded in the 31st minute when Oakley Anderson found the back of the net at 30:44 to level the match at 1-1.

Just over two minutes later, Nellie Brooks put the Wildcats ahead, scoring at 33:10 to give Weber State a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

Weber State recorded nine shots throughout the match, with five on goal. Anderson led the Wildcats with two shots, including her goal, while Isabella Sackett, Lily Blum, Simone Packer, Cici Garcia, Bonnie Buswell, Brooks and KJ Skinner each recorded one shot.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Butorac helped preserve the Weber State lead, recording four saves on five Wyoming shots on goal. The Cowgirls finished with 16 shots overall, but the Wildcats' defense held Wyoming to just one goal.

The Wildcats entered the second half with a 2-1 lead and held the Cowgirls scoreless over the final 45 minutes to secure the victory. 

The win marks Weber State's first of the 2026 season and improves the Wildcats to 1-1-1 on the year.

Weber State will return to action this Sunday at home against Oregon State.
