Admission Steps/Guidelines

WSU Athletic Department Academic Services is available to assist students, and parents of students, as smoothly as possible through the admissions, testing, and registration process at WSU. Below are several links showing steps specific to each type of student-athlete.

Initial Incoming Student-Athlete Steps (was not a Concurrent Enrollment student at WSU)
Incoming freshmen must first be admitted to WSU by paying a fee, filling out the online form, and submitting all applicable documents. Once admitted, students may need testing for math and/or English placement.

Students with AP or Concurrent Enrollment should submit these courses as indicated.

Once students are admitted, tested as applicable, and all holds are removed then they can contact their Athletic Academic Advisor for assistance with registration. These advisors can answer questions or make referrals to appropriate offices during the entire process as needed. Advisors can also assist student-athletes in setting up and familiarizing them with their eWeber Student Portal. For distant students, advisors can assist with registration and other issues over the phone. Please schedule a registration phone appointment for that purpose.

Meet with Compliance to verify Initial Eligibility completion.

If desired, student-athletes may apply for Financial Aid or Scholarships. A list of Scholarships such as WUE, Dream Weber, and WeberEdge can be located at the Scholarship link above. Applying for Financial Aid can also be done through the eWeber Student Portal once it has been set up. Advisors can assist with this process as well. All student-athletes must complete the Scholarship Application to verify their citizenship. No money will be awarded from any source until this application is completed for the upcoming year (choose the year carefully - we are entering the 2011-12 academic year).

Students interested in housing options may contact University Housing, or may search for housing opportunities off campus.

Students whose scholarships involve books need only go to the bookstore the first day of classes to pick up books. Don't wait, as not having books can interfere with one's success in class. Students who change their schedule after August 8th may not have books available on the first day of classes. These students should pick up a form as soon as possible from Zak Pendleton, Compliance, to submit the new schedule.

Check with Zak regarding all book pick ups and returns, as well as questions or concerns in this area.

Students not on book scholarships have several options for obtaining books. The campus offers a Student Book Exchange at the beginning and ending of each term where students can sell their books and buy books at better prices. Many textbooks can be purchased through online bookstores and sources (purchase early enough that books arrive on time for classes). Also, the Weber State Bookstore has an on campus and online bookstore where students can check what is needed and buy there or elsewhere. Be sure to verify book requirements before purchasing.

Initial Incoming Student-Athlete Steps (did attend WSU as Concurrent Enrollment student)
Students who attended Weber State as Concurrent Enrollments students will need to be re-admitted as degree-seeking students. If portal access is still available re-admittance can be completed using the following these steps:

1. Once in student portal, go to Student Services Tab, click on Register for classes (add/drop), click submit for the upcoming term, click I Agree, on the next screen. On the next screen click on the blue highlighted phrase that says Important click here to update. Then fill out all applicable information. If it asks for payment click pay later, as no fee is required to be re-admitted.

The process of re-admittance usually takes a couple of days. For assistance, contact your Athletic Academic Advisor. Students may also call the Admissions Office at 801-626-6743 to get re-admitted by phone.

Once re-admitted, unless courses have been taken to fill these requirements, students may need testing for math and/or English placement.

Students with AP or Concurrent Enrollment from other schools should submit these courses as indicated.

Returning Missionary Student-Athlete Steps
Students who attended Weber State prior to church mission service will need to be re-admitted to reactivate their account. Students may call the Admissions Office at 801-626-6743 to be re-admitted over the phone. Parents are not permitted to do this without the student first completing the Student Information Release Form to comply with federal FERPA laws which were developed to protect college students privacy. Once the form is submitted a parent may then get their child re-admitted, as well as work with Athletic Academic Advisors for all related academic issues.

WSU Athletics recognizes that many times parents are trying to assist their child, prior to the child's return from their mission, to be prepared for school at the next regular term. Once parents have completed the Student Information Release Form Athletic Academic Advisors can assist a parent in lieu of the student.

Firstly, a student will need to be re-admitted as noted above. Unless students have completed their General Education math and/or English prior to leaving they will likely need placement tests. This can be done through a proctor exam at their mission home. Student's who don't do well on these tests have the option to re-test once they return to see if they can place higher.

Transfer Student-Athlete Steps
Transfer students must first be admitted to WSU by paying a fee, filling out the online form, and submitting all applicable documents. This may require sending all college transcripts early on, when admitted, and re-sending college transcripts once an In Progress term is completed and an Associate's Degree has been posted to the transcript. Students will be admitted with the first transcripts, but the second transcript is vital for eligibility and progress towards degree purposes. Transcripts should be sent as soon as possible as the course articulation process often takes weeks or months to complete.

Once admitted, students may need testing for math and/or English placement based on courses from other colleges.

Once students are admitted, tested as applicable, and all holds are removed then they can contact their Athletic Academic Advisor for assistance with registration. These advisors can answer questions or make referrals to appropriate offices during the entire process as needed. Advisors can also assist student-athletes with setting up and familiarizing them with their eWeber Student Portal. It will also be necessary for students to meet with, or contact, major departments to declare a Program of Study (POS) which will meet Athletic Eligibility Progress Towards Degree requirements. Athletic Academic Advisors will verify this and work with students to determine the best course of action to meet both athletic and academic goals. For distant students advisors can assist with registration and other issues over the phone. Please schedule a registration phone appointment for that purpose.
