Jason Beck begins his third season under Coach Ron McBride on the Wildcat staff. Beck coaches the WSU quarterbacks.
For the past three season Beck has coached WSU quarterback Cameron Higgins. Higgins completed his four-year standout career as one of the top players in Weber State history. He set school records for most career passing yards (12,274), most career touchdowns passes (98), most career total touchdowns (105), most career pass completions (935), and career passing efficiency rating (144.5). His 98 career touchdown passes is also the most in Big Sky Conference history. His 12,261 yards of total offense is the third most in Big Sky history and his 105 touchdowns is tied for the second most in the conference history.
Beck came to Weber State after serving the 2008 season as a graduate at Louisiana State University assisting former BYU head coach, Gary Crowton, with the Tiger offense. Beck assisted in coordination of the passing game. The Bayou Tigers averaged 38.6 points per game in 2008 and set 10 offensive school records.
Prior to his stint at LSU, Beck served as a graduate assistant at BYU under Coach Bronco Mendenhall. He was responsible for coaching and running the “scout team” each week and breaking down film for coaches to used in scouting opponents.
The Cougars were 2006 and 2007 Mountain West Conference champions during his coaching tenure in Provo and were the top ranked offensive team in the league both seasons.
Beck played three seasons for BYU after transferring from the College of the Canyons. Beck served as the primary backup to John Beck. In 2004, he led College of the Canyons to an undefeated season and a number one ranking in the California JC system and was named to the JUCO All-America team both athletically and academically as a sophomore. He spent his freshman season at Ventura JC. He played high school football at Hueneme High School in his hometown of Oxnard, California. After graduating, Beck left to serve a two-year LDS Church mission to Denver, Colorado before embarking on his collegiate football career.
Beck earned a bachelor’s degree from BYU in Communications in 2006 and is currently working on a Master’s Communications from BYU. Married, his wife’s name is Jaime. She played soccer at BYU where she earned all-America honors.
