Ryan Milus returns for his third season as a graduate assistant coach with Weber State football. He coaches the cornerbacks for the Wildcats. He is pursuing a graduate degree at Weber State in Criminal Justice.Â
In his three seasons as an assistant coach, Weber State has advanced to the FCS Playoffs each season. The Wildcats have also won back-to-back Big Sky Conference titles in 2017 and 2018, for the first time in school history.Â
In 2018, the Wildcats repeated as Big Sky champions, again advanced to the FCS Quarterfinals and were ranked as high as third in the nation, the highest ranking in school history. Keilan Benjamin earned first-team honors and Parker Preator earned third-team All-Big Sky honors.Â
He's helped coach Weber State to one of the best defenses in the country the last few years. In 2017, WSUÂ finished in the top 10 in the country in interceptions, turnovers gained and red zone defense. The Wildcats led the Big Sky in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, interceptions, pass efficiency defense and red zone defense. Senior Taron Johnson was a consensus All-American selection and was named the Big Sky Defensive MVP.Â
Milus, a native of Tacoma, Washington, graduated from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. He then attended Arizona State University where he excelled as a track and field star with the Sun Devils.Â
He was a three-time All-American sprinter at ASU and finished second in the NCAA Championships in the 60 meters. He was twice a runner-up finisher in the 100 meters at the Pac-12 Championships. He qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100 meters and also twice competed at the U.S. Championships.Â
He graduated from Arizona State in 2014 with a degree in Business Tourism.Â
Following graduation he competed professionally in track and field and made the finals of the U.S. Indoor Championships.Â
He spent the 2016 season coaching football at his alma mater Hamilton High School, where he coached the secondary.Â
He is the son of Ron Milus, who is in his 19th season as an assistant coach in the NFL. Milus is currently the defensive backs coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. He has also coached with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
