Eric Lewis is in his second as an assistant coach at Weber State. In February 2013 he was elevated to the position of Defensive Coordinator. He also continues to coach the secondary for the Wildcats
Lewis joined the staff in the spring of 2012 and coached cornerbacks during the 2012 season.
He comes to Weber State with extensive coaching experience in college football and the NFL. He was the defensive coordinator at Eastern Michigan during the 2009 season. Prior to that Lewis spent the 2008 season as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville where he coached the cornerbacks. Before that he spent two seasons as a defensive quality coach for the Green Bay Packers of the NFL where he assisted cornerbacks coach Lionel Washington and secondary coach Kurt Schottenheimer. His duties included breaking down opponent game film as well as organizing the playbook and installation.
He began his coaching career at St. Augustine High School in San Diego where he was the receivers coach. He then moved to Michigan State where he was a defensive graduate assistant coach, primarily assisting with the defensive backs. From there he spent one season at Bucknell before moving to Ball State for three seasons (2003-05) where he coached the safeties.
Lewis played football at San Diego State where he graduated in 1998. He was a four-year starter with the Aztecs and earned All-WAC second team honors as a senior. He is his San Diego State's all-time leader in career pass breakups. He graduated with a degree in finance and business administration.
Lewis is the son of long-time college and NFL coach Sherman Lewis. A native of East Lansing, Mich., Lewis and his wife Sara are the parents of two children, Taylor (6) and Harper (3).
