The 2014 season was Justin Ena’s first year as the defensive coordinator at Weber State. He also coached the linebacker at Weber State. He joined the Wildcat staff in December 2013 after spending six seasons at Southern Utah. Ena also coaches the linebackers at Weber State.
In 2014 he helped the Wildcat defense make a big improvement. WSU finished the season sixth in the Big Sky in scoring defense and eighth in total defense after finishing last in the conference in 2013.
Ena spent six years at Southern Utah with four of the years spent as defensive coordinator. He led the Thunderbirds to one of the top defensive teams in the Big Sky the past two seasons. In 2013 SUU finished first in the Big Sky regular season in total defense and scoring defense. In 2012, SUU’s first year in the Big Sky, the Thunderbirds ranked 13th in the nation in sacks and were 19th in passing defense. Ena coached three-All-Americans on the defensive side of the ball at Southern Utah.
Prior to becoming defensive coordinator he spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons as Southern Utah’s special teams coordinator. During the 2009 season the Thunderbirds led the nation punting and finished ninth in punt return average.
Ena played college football at BYU, where he was a four-year starter and a three-time Mountain West All-Conference performer at linebacker. He went on to play four seasons in the NFL, three with the Philadelphia Eagles and one with the Tennessee Titans. He played in 47 career games in the NFL.
After his playing days his first coaching job came in his hometown of Shelton, Wash., where he was an assistant on the staff at Shelton High School.
Ena and his wife, Dana, are the parents of two children, a son Justice, and a daughter Olivia.
