Former Wildcat standout Melissa Leonard begins her 10th season on the Weber State coaching staff.  She has spent the last nine seasons as an assistant coach and in March 2009 was elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach.  Leonard's primary duties are in assisting with team training and scouting.  She is also heavily involved in teaching and coaching in the Wildcat summer camps and helps monitor the volleyball student-athletic academics.

Leonard was a four-year starter for the Wildcats from 1995 to 1998.  She was a two-time All-Big Sky Second Team selection, a four-time Big Sky Academic All-Conference selection, and was selected as the team captain and MVP in 1997 and 1998.
    
Coach Leonard ranks in the Weber State career top ten in four categories.  She is sixth all-time in career kills (1,246) and career kill attempts (3,584), and ranks seventh all-time in career digs (1,034).  She is one of seven players in Weber State history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.  

Leonard also holds the Weber State school record for most attacks in a match with 92 at Montana in 1997.  She is fifth in school history for most digs in a single match with 30 against Montana in 1998.  Her 499 kills in 1997 is the fifth best in single-season history and her total of 465 in 1997 is sixth all-time.  She is third in single-season attempts with 1,368 in 1997, and tenth in digs with 383 in 1998.  Leonard also has the third best single-season kills average at 4.54 kills per game.
    
Melissa was born November 19, 1976 in St. Anthony, Idaho.  She attended Preston High School in Preston, Idaho, graduating in 1995.  While playing for the Wildcats she received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Weber State in 1999.  She was an assistant coach for one season at Weber State before taking time off to pursue a Master's degree in Education at Utah State.  She rejoined the Wildcat team as an assistant coach in 2002, after graduating from Utah State.
