  Gary Crompton enjoyed a 25-year career at Weber State, serving as athletic director at the school during times of tremendous growth and success, and also achieved distinction as a community and civic leader.

  Crompton began at Weber State as the school’s ticket manager from 1962 to 1976. He was named athletics director in 1976, and served in that capacity for 12 years.

  Under Crompton’s guidance, the Wildcats won the Big Sky Conference All-Sports Trophy in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1983 and 1985. During that period, Weber State produced 24 men’s Big Sky championship teams as well as four women’s championship teams.

   The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament in men’s basketball in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1983, and participated in the NCAA Division I-AA Football Playoffs in 1987.

 Also, the Weber State women’s golf program won the AIAW National Championship in 1982.

  Weber State hosted the NCAA Basketball Tournament during 1980, 1983 and 1986.

  Crompton passed away on Nov. 1, 2000, at age 66.
