MISSOULA, Mont. -- The Weber State women's soccer team (7-6-3 overall; 3-1-2 Big Sky) garnered another point in its quest for the conference regular season title on Saturday as they dueled to a 1-1 tie with Montana (3-11-2; 1-3-2) at South Campus Field.
Shelli Gough put the Wildcats on the board in the 79th minute, scoring from 10 yards out on a crossing pass from Cassidy Williams. The goal was the second of the year for the senior midfielder.
In the 87th minute, with the Grizzlies pressing for the equalizer, WSU keeper Rebecca Ritchie misplayed a ball, leaving an open net for Montana's Kaitlyn Heinson. Heinson took advantage, scoring her third goal of the year to tie the match.
The Wildcats managed only one shot in the two overtime periods, after posting 25 in regulation play, and the match went scoreless in extra time for the draw.
Ritchie posted four saves in the match, but allowed her first goal in more than four matches. Heinson's goal ended a consecutive scoreless streak by Ritchie and the Wildcats at 485 minutes and 13 seconds.
Weber State, who entered the match in first place in the Big Sky conference with 10 points, relinquished the top spot in the league as Sacramento State (3-0-3 in the Big Sky) defeated Northern Arizona 2-0. The 'Cats are now one point behind the Hornets with one match remaining in the regular season. The result did, however, clinch a spot in the Big Sky Soccer Championships for WSU.
