Ogden, UT ? After a slow start the Weber State volleyball team rallied for a 3-1 win over Northern Colorado Friday night at the Swenson Gym.  The win moves the ?Cats to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky Conference action following the 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 victory over the Bears. 

 

Northern Colorado jumped off to a 5-1 lead early on in the first set.  WSU got as close as one point but the Bears never trailed in route to winning the set. 

 

After that though it was all Weber State as the ?Cats never trailed in the second or third sets.  The Wildcats hit .407 in the second set and held UNC to -.059 in the third set.   

 

The Bears started the fourth set with a 4-1 lead but the Wildcats then went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead and never looked back.  The ?Cats improved to 6-1 this season in four-set matches.

 

“We got off to a slow start and were a little bit shaky early but as the match progressed we got a little momentum going,” said WSU head coach Al Givens.  “We came out aggressive after the first set and made some good things happen.”

 

The Wildcats posted ten more kills than the Bears and out hit them .241 to .090.  WSU also had 14 blocks, tied for the most in a match this season.  The win marked the first ever win for the Wildcats over Northern Colorado in Ogden.

 

Junior Chelsea Bair posted a match-high 17 kills and also had 11 digs, for her tenth double-double of the season.  Senior Brittney Bisaillon also had a double-double with 13 kills and a season-high ten blocks, while posting a hitting percentage of .440.

 

Leah Burmeister had 13 kills and six digs for the Wildcats.  Caitlyn Anderson had 22 digs and Kim Lissinna posted a season-high 37 assists.    

 

The win was WSU's second Big Sky win of the year.  The ?Cats will host Northern Arizona in another conference match on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Swenson Gym. 

 

“It was a combined team effort tonight for us,” Givens said.  “Now we have to get ready and do it again on Saturday.”
