WSU Volleyball Sweeps Montana State

Ogden, UT -- The Weber State volleyball
team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Montana State Saturday
night at the Swenson Gym. The 25-19, 26-24, 25-16 victory gives Weber
State 20 wins on the season for the first time in six years.
With the win the ?Cats close out the Big Sky regular season
with a 9-7 record. They will be the
fifth seed next week's conference tournament and will take on the fourth seed
Montana Grizzlies in the first round Friday morning.
Saturday night the Wildcats posted a hitting percentage of
.415, which ranks as the fifth best percentage in Weber State history. WSU had 49 kills and just ten hitting errors
for the match.
In the first set Montana State hit .522 with 14 kills and
just two errors, but the Wildcats hit .393 themselves and won the set.
The second set saw 16 ties and three lead changes. The Bobcats had two set points and led 24-22
but the Wildcats rattled off four straight points to seal the set.
It was all Weber State in the third set as they never trailed
and hit .375 in route to the sweep.
With the loss Montana State finished 0-16 in league play for
the second straight season.
The Wildcats finished with nine more kills and three more
digs than the Bobcats. They also out
hit MSU nine to seven.
WSU junior Chelsea Bair led the way with a match-high 17
kills to go along with seven digs.
Senior Brittney Bisaillon added ten kills and five blocks, while hitting
.450. The other senior, Leah
Burmeister, finished with nine kills and a match-high ten digs as the two
seniors played their final home match at the Swenson Gym.
The ?Cats (20-12 overall) will now head into the Big Sky
Championships for the fourth straight season.
WSU will be the fifth seed and take on fourth seed Montana in the first
round of the tournament Friday at 10:30 a.m. Mountain time in Portland, Oregon.
Eastern Washington won the regular season title and will be
the first seed. Portland State will be
the second seed and those two teams will receive byes into the semifinals. Northern Colorado will be the third seed and
will take on sixth seed Sacramento State in the other quarterfinal Friday
morning.
