WSU Drops Big Sky Match to Vikings

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Weber State women's tennis team dropped its second-straight match on Saturday with a 4-3 loss to Portland State University.
The Wildcats opened the match winning the doubles point with two of three matches, but were taken down 4-2 in singles action.
"Our girls came out strong and dominated the doubles to take the doubles point and the singles was very close," said WSU head coach Jonas Ehrlin. "We had one match point in number two singles to win the match but it didn't go our way. The girls played very well and with one point away from winning the match, it's a tough loss for the team. But I can't say enough about the great team effort."
Inalise Pienaar and Ashley Schapper defeated Lacey Pfilbsen and Molly Knox 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot, while Gabriela Venditto and Keya Adamson put away Alyssa Ferry and Caitlin Stocking 8-1 at No. 2.
In singles, only Schapper and Adamson claimed wins for the Wildcats. Schapper defeated Knox 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 3, and Adamson downed Stocking 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (1) at No. 6. Pienaar dropped a crucial match at No. 2 singles, falling in three tough sets to Stephanie Fuchs 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (6).
The Wildcats will return home and will have 12 days off before facing Utah State on Feb. 21. That match is scheduled for Logan, Utah at 1:00 p.m.
