Smith scored on runs of 14, 8 and 2 yards as the Wildcats built up a 35-6 halftime lead. He added a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and finished the game with 68 yards on 15 carries. He also caught four passes for 89 yards.

The Bulldogs (0-1) ended the first half with their only score as Garrett Graves found Derrick Pluff on a 2-yard scoring pass. Montana Western, an NAIA school, missed the extra-point attempt.
