Wildcats Roll to a 62-6 Win Over Montana-Western in Season Opener

OGDEN, Utah (AP) -Trevyn Smith ran for four touchdowns as Weber State opened the season with 535 yards of offense in a 62-6 win over Montana Western on Thursday night.
Defensive lineman Kevin Linehan returned a fumble 96 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter for the Wildcats, who held the Bulldogs to one touchdown.
Smith scored on runs of 14, 8 and 2 yards as the Wildcats built up a 35-6 halftime lead. He added a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and finished the game with 68 yards on 15 carries. He also caught four passes for 89 yards.
The Bulldogs (0-1) ended the first half with their only score as Garrett Graves found Derrick Pluff on a 2-yard scoring pass. Montana Western, an NAIA school, missed the extra-point attempt.
Montana Western was close to scoring in the first quarter, but Pluff lost the ball and Linehan picked up the ball and ran all the way for the score.
Cameron Higgins completed 17 of 27 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats during three quarters of work. He hit Marcus Mailei on a 3-yard scoring pass early in the third quarter and then threw a 28-yard touchdown to Bryant Eteuati in the later in the quarter.
Graves finished the game 8 of 20 for 37 yards.
Jon Williams kicked field goals of 32 and 35 yards for Weber State while Brendon Doyle, who relieved Higgins, completed 5 of 7 passes for 63 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Justin Schwartzbauer.
