Wildcats Hold Second Spring Scrimmage

Wildcats Win Big Sky Opener 32-27 Over Sacramento State

Cameron Higgins threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown as Weber State opened up Big Sky Conference action with a 32-27 win at Sacramento State Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats improve to 3-1 overall with the victory.

The Wildcats opened the day with a quick 7-0 lead after Higgins found Bryant Eteuati with a 19-yard touchdown pass.  After a Sacramento State score Higgins capped off an 80-yard drive with a four yard touchdown run and the ?Cats led 14-7 after the first quarter.  WSU led 14-10 at halftime. 

Higgins opened the third quarter with another 80-yard drive and found Cody Nakamura for a 7-yard touchdown pass.  However, the extra point failed and the ?Cats led 20-10.  The Hornets then scored ten straight points to tie the game at 20-20 with 2:20 to play in the third quarter. 

That was when Higgins connected with Tim Toone on a 60-yard touchdown pass which Weber State the lead again at 26-20 after they failed again on the extra point. 

WSU took a 12-point lead after Higgins found Eteuati again for a 31-yard TD pass that gave the ?Cats a 32-20 lead with 10:56 to play.  The Hornets cut the lead to 32-27 with 5:31 to play after a touchdown. 

After the ?Cats were forced to punt Sacramento State had the ball and was driving when Weber State was able to stop them on a key fourth and one at mid-field when Scotty Goodloe stopped Evander Wilkins with 2:14 remaining which sealed the win for the Wildcats. 

Higgins finished the day 21-33 for 380 yards and four touchdowns.  Toone led the receivers with six catches for 146 yards and Nakamura had five catches for 102 yards. 

WSU was also strong on the ground as junior Trevyn Smith had 24 carries for 123 yards to lead the Wildcat rushing attack. 

All total Weber State finished with 513 yards to total offense Eteuati had four kickoff returns for 92 yards. 

The Wildcats will next take on No. 20 Utah next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.  Tickets for the game are still available by clicking here.
