Ogden, UT – The Weber State volleyball team was swept 3-0 to Northern Arizona on its home floor Friday night. The Lumberjacks picked up a 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 victory, handing WSU its third straight 3-0 loss. The Wildcats fall to 5-18 overall and 3-8 in Big Sky play with the loss.
The Wildcats finished with five more kills than the Lumberjacks but hit just .155 for the match, while NAU hit .211. The Wildcats also recorded 10 service errors on the night.
The first set was tied 20-20 when NAU closed out on a 5-2 run to win the first set. Northern Arizona led 21-20 in the second set and again closed out strong, finishing 4-1 to take a 2-0 lead.
The 'Jacks never trailed in the third set in route to the sweep. It marked the first time NAU picked up a sweep in Ogden since 1997.
“We made critical errors at critical times and didn't take advantage of our opportunities,” said WSU head coach Al Givens. “NAU made big plays when they needed to and we did not. It's a disappointing loss but we aren't going to give up.”
The Wildcats were led by Jenna Leggat and Chelsea Bair who each posted 11 kills. Bair hit .269 for the match and had seven of her 11 kills in the third set. Caitlyn Anderson led the team with nine digs and also added eight kills.
The 'Cats now sit at 3-8 in conference play with five matches remaining. WSU will host Northern Colorado Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Swenson Gym. All fans who wear a Halloween costume to the match will get in free. Northern Colorado is 8-2 in league play and picked up a 3-2 win at Idaho State Friday night.
