The Weber State volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Montana Grizzlies Saturday night in Missoula.  The Grizzlies picked up a 17-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-11 victory over the Wildcats, dropping Weber State to 2-4 in Big Sky action.

The Wildcats never trailed in route to winning the first set for just the second time this season.  WSU hit .429 with 15 kills and three errors in the set, compared to just .043 for Montana with only four kills and three errors. 

 

Weber State was also in control in the second set, holding a 17-10 lead when Montana went on an 8-3 run to close the gap.  WSU had a 24-20 lead and had three straight chances to close out the set but Montana scored five points in a row and went on to win the set.  The Wildcats had 20 kills in the second set.

 

Montana won the third set 25-22 and then never trialed in routing the Wildcats in the fourth set.  The Grizzlies jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the fourth set and cruised to the win.  The 11 points is the fewest scored in a set by the 'Cats this season.  Montana had 12 kills and just two errors in the set.  The Grizzlies improve to 2-3 in league play with the win.  

 

Weber State had four more kills than Montana and had just two less digs.  They also out blocked the Grizzlies 10-7 but Montana hit .293 compared to .215 for Weber State.  The Wildcats finished with eight aces but had nine service errors.

 

For the second-straight night senior Chelsea Bair led the Wildcats with a double-double.  Bair finished the night with 18 kills and 11 digs, to lead the Wildcats in both categories.  She was one of three players in double figures in kills as Caitlyn Anderson tied her season-high with 14 kills and Jenna Leggat added 13 kills.  Jocilyn Taylor also had a double-double with 25 assists and ten digs. 

 

The loss drops Weber State to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in league play this season.  The Wildcats will step out of conference action Tuesday when they play at Utah at 7:00 p.m.  WSU will return to Big Sky play next Saturday when they host Sacramento State.
