Wildcats Fall 3-1 at Utah

The Weber State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 non-conference match Tuesday night at the University of Utah. The Utes picked up a 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 28-26 victory to improve to 11-5 on the season, while the Wildcats dropped to 3-14 overall.
With the score tied 16-16 in the first set, Utah went on a 9-1 run to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set included nine ties and four lead changes. WSU broke away from an 18-18 tie with a 4-0 run and scored the last two points of the set to tie the match at 1-1.
The Utes captured the third set to take a 2-1 lead before a very close fourth set. Weber State held a 24-22 lead and had two set points before back-to-back kills by Utah's Karola Barkowiak tied the score at 24-24. The 'Cats had another set point after a kill by Chelsea Bair but Utah scored again and eventually won the set 28-26.
It marked the seventh straight Utah win over the Wildcats.
Utah out hit WSU .295 to .141 and posted 13 more kills than the Wildcats. They also had two more digs and two more blocks. Weber State recorded nine aces but also had nine service errors.
Two Wildcats scored in double figures in kills. Bair posted 13 kills and 11 digs for her third straight double-double. She now has six double-doubles on the season. Senior Amy Fackrell tied her career-high with 13 kills and also hit .391 for the match and recorded six blocks.
Caitlyn Anderson recorded nine kills and 11 digs for the Wildcats.
Weber State, 3-14 overall and 2-4 in Big Sky play, will return to conference action this Saturday with a home match against Sacramento State. The Wildcats will play their next three matches at the Swenson Gym.
