Wildcat Doubles Finds Success at Cowgirl Invite

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The Weber State women's tennis team saw some impressive play from its doubles teams as the Wildcats competed in the Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational over the weekend.
Brittany Moore and Elsje Beneke teamed to earn back-to-back wins to open the tournament, advancing to the semifinals before falling 8-3 to Wyoming's team of Carly VanHollen and Paloma Navarro. Moore and Beneke started off the tourney with an 8-3 win over Rui Xu and Lindsay Butzer of Colorado State and reached the semis behind a 9-8 (6) win over Sydney Bell and Jenny Whatley of Northern Colorado.
Greyce Farias and Keya Jenkins reached the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket before suffering an 8-2 loss to Wyoming's team of Kim VanGinkel and Sasa Nemcova. Farias and Jenkins then made a run through the back draw, earning the consolation championship with an impressive 8-1 win over Melissa Holzinger and Manar Al-Jazzaf of Colorado State. Along the way to their title, Farias and Jenkins knocked off a pair of Northern Colorado teams. They defeated Bell and Whatley in the back draw quarters and sisters Tabatha and Tiffany Knop 8-3 in the semis.
In singles play, Farias earned a 6-7 (2), 6-4,6-3 win over Nemcova before falling. Beneke lost in the opening round of singles play, but won twice in the back draw, reaching the semis before being eliminated.
