WSU Volleyball Drops Two Matches at BYU Tournament

The Weber State volleyball team lost two matches Saturday at the BYU Nike Classic in Provo, dropping the Wildcats to 1-6 on the season. WSU lost 3-0 to BYU, then fell 3-2 to Cal Poly.
In the morning match against the Cougars BYU completed a 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 sweep of the Wildcats, who still have never beaten BYU in 51 tries.
Weber State hit .165 for the match, compared to .279 for BYU. The Wildcats committed 14 service errors in the match and had 21 attack errors.
For the match, WSU was led by Chelsea Bair and Amy Fackrell who each recorded 10 kills. Fackrell also hit .600 for the match.
In the afternoon match with Cal Poly, the Mustangs picked up a 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 15-11 win for their first win of the season.
After dropping the first two sets, the Wildcats rallied back to win the next two and even the match. WSU had 18 kills and just two errors in the third set to hit .457 for the set.
In the decisive fifth set there were six ties and two lead changes but Cal Poly closed the match on a 4-1 run to seal the victory.
Jenna Leggat and Chelsea Bair each added 14 kills in the loss, and each recorded double-doubles as Leggat added 13 digs and Bair recorded 12. Caitlyn Anderson also had 13 kills and nine digs for the 'Cats.
Weber State won't get too much time to rest as the 'Cats will return home to take on Washington State on Labor Day Monday. That match will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Swenson Gym. Following the match the Wildcats will head to Hawaii for a tournament next weekend.
