Wildcats Fall to Portland State

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Weber State women's basketball team 87-62 on Friday night at the Stott Center.
After a pair of free throws by Caitlin Anderson cut the lead to 10-6 with 13:57 left in the first half, the Vikings scored the next 11 points to go ahead by 15 points. Portland State led by as many as 19 in the opening period and held a 44-28 lead at the half.
The closest the Wildcats would get in the second half would be 12 points, while PSU stretched the lead to as many as 28 over the final 20 minutes.
Anderson led the Wildcats with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Mikell Woodfield added 13 points and seven boards. Sarah Conner chipped in 11 points, while Tonya Schnibbe had seven points, six rebounds and six assists.
Portland State's Kelly Marchant led all players with 18 points. Claire Faucher and Eryn Jones each had 17 points, while Faucher added a game-high eight assists. Erin Yankus added another 12 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
The Vikings improved to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky, while the Wildcats fell to 7-12 with a 1-5 conference record. The 'Cats will turn around and play Eastern Washington on Saturday night in Cheney, Wash.
