OGDEN, Utah -- Turnovers are costly no matter how or where they happen.

On Saturday afternoon at Stewart Stadium, miscues torpedoed the Wildcats' hopes.

Eastern Washington scored 21 points off three goal-line interceptions and cruised to a 35-24 victory over Weber State in Big Sky Conference football action.

It's the Wildcats' first home loss of the 2010 season and dropped them to 1-2 in Big Sky action (2-3 overall). Eastern Washington improved to 2-1 in league, 3-2 overall.

Statistically, the game was a dead heat. Weber State ran 80 plays and had 459 yards of offense; Eastern Washington had 465 yards on 76 plays. The Eagles had 128 yards rushing and 337 yards passing, while Weber State had 144 rushing and 315 passing.

The difference, literally, was the turnovers. The three miscues, had Weber State ultimately scored on them, resulted in a 42-point swing, one that could have potentially turned the game into a runaway win for the Wildcats.

Mike Phillips had 165 yards receiving for Weber State on six catches, one of which was a third-quarter flea flicker from Cameron Higgins that turned into a 65-yard touchdown pass. That play completed Weber State's comeback from a 14-3 halftime deficit and put the Wildcats ahead 17-14 in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the Purple and White, it was the last points they would score until the final seconds.
Eastern Washington scored three straight touchdowns to answer Weber State's charge, pushing its lead to 35-17 with 9:43 left in the game.

The Wildcats pulled back within 11 on Joel Hancock's four yard reception from Higgins with 1:15 remaining, but Weber State couldn't get control of the on-side kick and Eastern Washington was able to run out the remainder of the clock.

Defensively, Taylor Sedillo had 12 tackles (two solo, 10 assisted) and Nick Webb had nine tackles, including four solo. Jordan Brown had five solo tackles and seven total.

Weber State enters a bye week this week and then will travel north to Pocatello, Idaho, to face rival Idaho State on Saturday, October 16.
