MISSOULA, Mont. - Montana handed Weber State its second-straight loss blowing out the Wildcats 45-10 Saturday afternoon in front of 25,401 fans at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
The Grizzlies racked up 545 yards of total offense, compared to just 290 by Weber State. Montana had 308 yards passing and 237 yards on the ground.
"They really kicked us around and we weren't able to answer what they did," said WSU head coach Ron McBride. "Our defense didn't respond and we couldn't convert offensively when we needed to. Montana was very well prepared and you have to give them all the credit."
Individually Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson threw for six touchdowns, which ties a Montana single-game record. Johnson was 23-32 for 299 yards and the six touchdowns.
Jabin Sambrano also tied a UM record as he had four receiving touchdowns, finishing with seven catches for 94 yards.
For the Wildcats sophomore Jordan Adamczyk got his first career start after Mike Hoke did not play with a separated shoulder. Adamczyk finished the day 18-40 for 196 yards and had two interceptions.
"We just weren't able to perform on offense and didn't execute when we needed to," Adamczyk said.
Weber State had just 94 yards rushing, their second-lowest output of the season. Freshman Barrinton Collins led the way with eight carries for 34 yards and Josh Booker had seven carries for 31 yards.
On the receiving end Shaydon Kehano had six catches for 73 yards. Defensively Anthony Morales had 13 tackles to lead the team with Nick Webb and Tony Epperson recording 12. Trevor Pletcher had four tackles and one sack. Pletcher and Caldwell Taylor each recorded a blocked punt.
"Montana's executed their offense to perfection," Webb said. "We struggled against them defensively and couldn't make stops."
After Weber State scored on a 34-yard field goal by Shaun McClain the 'Cats took a 3-0 lead with 9:13 to play in the first quarter.
From there it was all Montana as the Grizzlies went on a 45-0 run to blow away the 'Cats, before Weber State's only touchdown in the closing minutes.
With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the Big Sky. Montana improves to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in league action. Weber State will be back home next week when they host Montana State at 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
