Wildcats Post 5-2 Win over Idaho State

OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State women's tennis team moved to 2-2 on the season on Wednesday following a 5-2 victory over Idaho State (0-2) in non-Big Sky action at the Ogden Athletic Club.
"I have been really pleased with our play over the last two matches," said WSU head coach Jonas Ehrlin. "We've been working a lot on our court movement the past couple of weeks and it's really paying off and translating into wins for our girls."
The Wildcats took the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Naseem Eslami and Brittiny Moore defeated Rilee Moorhead and Risa Fujiwara 8-4 at No. 1 and Kristi Russell and Nittaya Phonharath cruised to a quick 8-0 win over Rachel Ryan and Laura Severino.
In singles, the Wildcats continued to succeed, winning four of the six matches. Eslami rolled in her match at No. 1 singles, defeating Katharina Marsela 6-0, 6-1. Russell and Phonharath each also won in straight sets, with Russell defeating Severino 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and Phonharath scoring a 7-6, 6-0 win over Ryan at No. 6.
Moore rallied from a 6-3 first set loss in her match at the No. 3 spot to defeat Moorhead 6-3, 6-2 over the final two sets.
Michelle Warwick lost a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 three-setter at No. 4 to Fujiwara, and Annika Karlsen retired with flu-like symptoms one set into her match with Laura Porras at No. 3 for the only two Wildcat losses on the day.
The Wildcats will be off until Sunday, Feb. 20, when they face Eastern Washington at 10:00 a.m. in Ogden.
