POCATELLO, Idaho – Already suffering from depth issues from a rash of injuries through the course of the season, the Wildcats' bench took another hit due to illness before tip-off on Thursday.
Despite a spirited effort and 16 points from sophomore guard Megan Patterson, the Weber State University women's basketball team fell 71-51 to arch-rival Idaho State at ICCU Court at Reed Gym.
Patterson knocked down four 3-pointers en route to her point total, keeping her atop the league in long distance shots made per game.
Senior forward Caitlin Anderson finished the night with 12 points and six rebounds. Anderson's six rebounds give her 688 for her career and move her in to ninth place in Weber State's career rebounding charts, sliding past former standout Sara Tuomi. She needs seven more in her final career game to move into eighth place on the list.
Sophomore forward Mariah Metoyer added seven points and junior center Mikell Woodfield added six for Weber State, which had its two-game win streak snapped. Freshman guard/forward Jordan Pfau had a team-best eight rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats battled tough in the first half, racing out to a 5-0 lead early on and trading the lead back-and-forth nine times in the opening 20 minutes. Patterson and Woodfield each had six points for Weber State in the first half.
Weber State battled to stay even with Idaho State in the second half, but was ultimately done in by turnovers, finishing the night with 23 miscues – the Wildcats' second-highest number of turnovers this season.
Junior guard Abby Palmer missed the game due to illness.
Weber State will wrap up its 2010-11 season on the road on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Hornets of Sacramento State at 3 p.m. MST in Sacramento, Calif.
