Wildcat volleyball swept by rival Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Wildcats put up a strong fight against one of the Big Sky's top teams on the road, but ultimately fell short of capturing a road win.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs had 11 kills, five digs and four blocks for the Weber State University women's volleyball team, which fell 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 to rival Idaho State on Saturday night at Reed Gym.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Biggs added eight kills and junior middle blocker Briana Wilms had six blocks and five kills for the Wildcats.
Senior middle blocker Dama Cox added six kills and hit .385, and senior libero Laurel Bodily had 11 digs for WSU.
Weber State fell to 1-6 in Big Sky Conference action (7-11 overall), while Idaho State improved to 6-1 in league play and 12-4 overall.
Statistically, the match was close with Idaho State recording 37 kills to Weber State's 35, and the Wildcats finishing with 37 digs and eight team blocks to the Bengals' 35 digs and 10 team blocks.
The key difference came in efficiency as Idaho State hit .228, committing just 14 attacking errors, while Weber State his .124.
After battling closely early in the first set, Idaho State used a 9-3 surged to push a one-point lead to 19-12 and then closed it out to take a 1-0 lead.
Weber State led much of the second set, taking a 19-15 advantage on Audrey Gee kill.
The Wildcats still led 20-17 on a kill by freshman setter Whitney Hunt, but the Bengals scored seven straight points to go up 24-20 and then held off WSU for the two-point win.
ISU opened up a 5-0 lead in the third set and never trailed, despite WSU keeping within a couple of points until the end.
Weber State will be back in action on Saturday at 8 p.m. when it travels to Sacramento, Calif., to take on Sacramento State at the Hornet's Nest.
