OGDEN, Utah - The Wildcats got off to a hot start on Senior Night, but unfortunately couldn't sustain it against the Hornets.
Despite 10 kills from senior outside hitter Dama Cox and 13 digs and 35 assists from senior setter Caitlin Penrod, Sacramento State rallied to claim a 24-26, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18 win over the Weber State University women's volleyball team in Big Sky Conference action on Saturday night at Swenson Gym.
The Wildcats' three seniors, Cox, Penrod, and libero Laurel Bodily, were each honored prior to the match, which was the final home contest of the 2012 season for Weber State.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs and junior outside hitter Piper Wahlin each added nine kills for the Wildcats
Weber State captured the first set in nail-biting fashion as it featured 18 ties and six lead changes.
Sacramento State jumped out to leads in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Wildcats looked well on their way to extending the match the distance as they let by five points early in the fourth set, but the Hornets used an 12-1 scoring surge to take an 18-12 advantage and held off WSU's comeback attempt.
Weber State will be back in action on the road next week at Portland State and Eastern Washington to wrap up the 2012 season.
