Wildcat volleyball wraps up strong spring season

OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State volleyball team suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Montana State Friday afternoon at the Swenson Gym.  The Bobcats came from behind to win the match 22-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-19, 15-8. 

With the score tied 19-19 in the first set the Wildcats closed out the set on a 6-3 run to pick up the win.  Montana State came back strong in the second set, hitting .421 with eight kills and no errors to tie the match at 1-1. 

Weber State owned the third set as the Wildcats had 16 kills and just two errors, hitting .560 for the set.  The Bobcats trailed just once in the fourth set and then jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead in the decisive fifth set in route to the win.  Montana State improves to 14-9 overall and 8-7 in Big Sky play with the victory. 

The Wildcats hit .162 for the match, compared to .268 for Montana.  Weber State finished with 13 blocks and six service aces.  Junior Briana Wilms led the Wildcats with 12 kills, along with five blocks.  Piper Wahlin finished with 10 kills and three blocks.  Audrey Biggs and Dama Cox each added nine kills and Audrey Gee led the team with seven blocks.  Laurel Bodily finished with a match-high 13 digs and Rebecca Fuchs added four digs. 
 
The loss drops Weber State to 9-18 overall and 2-13 in Big Sky play with five matches remaining.  WSU continues its five-match homestand Saturday night when the 'Cats host Montana at 7:00 p.m. at the Swenson Gym.
